This is a slow growing evergreen Australian native growing 5 – 15m tall with a compact habit, smooth bark when young that becomes scaly as the tree ages, it has glossy dark green leaves that are paler beneath and flowers occur in Summer in creamy yellow to orange hues 10mm in diameter in short clusters.
Seed capsules that follow are woody and globular ripening in the Autumn months.
This tree is tolerant of a range of soils and conditions, can grow in well drained rocky soils to heavy clay loams as long as ample water is provided.
Native to the eastern coast of Australia from the Brisbane River, QLD through central NSW and down to the Gippsland region of VIC, occurring along creek banks and in rainforest openings in light shade to full sun.
Can be used in a wide range of applications – street planitngs, in parks and gardens, as a feature, large screen or windbreak, in coastal locations and attracts birds, butterflies and bees!
