Portulaca oleracea sativa - Golden Purslane/Purslane - 50 seeds

An edible succulent that is also quite ornamental!
 
This attractive Indian native grows 15 - 30cm tall x 30 - 75cm wide as a low growing, erect, many branching succulent, it has thick light greenish yellow oval leaves, 1.25 - 1.75cm long and thick reddish fleshy stems. The flowers have 5 petals with yellow stamens from Summer to Autumn.
 
It has long been cultivated and used medicinally or fresh or cooked in salads, soups, stews, sauces and contains lots of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, having 7 times more beta carotene than carrots, the flavour is citrus, salty, peppery and are crunchy and juicy due to the succulent nature.
 
Best grown in full sun in a light sandy, rich, moist but well drained soil. Looks great as a potted specimen or in garden beds, note that it can become weedy if the plant is allowed to self sow its own seeds, but if being grown as an edible, this will be unlikely.
