This very attractive Chinese native has a moderate growth rate growing 8 - 10m tall with a 6m spread, with a rounded to open habit and dark grey bark with shallow furrows that flake away to reveal pinkish orange young wood underneath. 
It has pinnately compound leaves that are green and leathery that turn orange, yellow and red in Autumn with clusters of yellowish green to white flowers that are inconspicuous in Summer, followed by red drupes which mature to blue on female plants in Autumn to Winter.
 
Best grown in full sun to part shade, tolerates most soils as long as they are well drained in warm temperate to cold climates. It has a high frost tolerance, drought tolerant and responds favourably to pruning.
 
Makes a great feature tree, street tree, shade tree, in gardens, parks as a feature and Bonsai specimen.
