Mimosa pudica is an attractive prickly long lived perennial growing 15cm to 50cm tall and up to 1m long when supported on a trellis.  The stems have sparse prickles 2 – 2.5mm long, are sometimes bristly or can be almost hairless, the alternate bipinnate leaves don’t have prickles and are very sensitive to touch, moving in response to stimuli – known as seismonastry. 
 
The globular flowers are a lovely lilac to pink colour and these are followed by clusters of small brown pods that are densely bristled with prickles on their margins.
 
Popular as an interesting and slightly different house plant or in the garden, cover crop or even for erosion control.
