This Australian native shrub growing 2 - 5m tall x 6m wide with an erect habit, linear to oblong mid green leaves 9 - 40mm long x 2 - 9mm wide, the foliage is irregularly toothed and branches can end with a rigid spine.
Pale creamy yellow, bell shaped and perfumed flowers grow in pairs or solitary occur in Winter to Summer, these pretty flowers attract birds and butterflies.
Flowers are followed by edible pale grey to mauve succulent berries, these are eaten by birds and lizards.
Found naturally growing in open forests and woodlands, often neat lakes, swamps or watercourses on sandy soils or alluvial, rarely volcanic clays.
Best grown in full sun to part shade in moist soil.
Makes a great security screen, hedge or screen and can be a habitat for birds.
Propagation is quite easy from seed but can take 3 - 5 months for seeds to germinate. Seeds need to be soaked for 12 - 24 hours to break the dormancy, sow in a good quality seed raising mix, keep moist and leave in a shaded area.
