Melaleuca nodosa is another widely cultivated members of the genus and is well established in general horticulture.
The species forms a medium shrub to about 3m in height and half that in width with golden yellow flowers that occur in large globular clusters in Spring and Summer and the leaves are mid green, linear and growing to about 3mm in length.
Melaleuca nodosa has proven to be a hardy plant over a range of climates and soils and tolerates cold and frost to about - 7°C, it will tolerate less than perfect drainage and is useful for city and coastal plantings as it will tolerate both smog and salt spray and makes an excellent screen.
Flowering is best in sunny positions, responds to annual fertilising after flowering and to an annual light pruning to encourage a bushy shape.
Propagation is easy from both seed and cuttings.
Generally Melaleuca are frost tolerant and tolerate heat, hot winds, wet feet, salt air and drought, they are extremely hardy and fast growing, they have very decorative flowers and bark.
The species responds to annual fertilising after flowering and to an annual light pruning to encourage a bushy shape and under ideal conditions the species is quick growing and makes a good screening plant.
