Leptospermum petersonii, commonly known as the Lemon Scented Tea Tree is a medium sized rounded shrub growing about 3m in height and 2m in width and has narrow lanceolate leaves that are strongly lemon scented and the new foliage is copper bronze colour.

It has many small white flowers that decorate the tree in early Summer, the leaves when crushed have a beautiful citrus scent.

It grows naturally mainly on rocky outcrops and mountain peaks, so tough in dry, exposed rocky locations and is very hardy in droughts and frosts and tolerant of exposed windy sites.  It is an excellent performer in cultivation and often used as a small street tree.

As with Manuka and Jelly Bush Leptospermum liversidgei is an excellent source of nectar and pollen for bees and exhibits the highly sought MGO constituents more commonly sought in Manuka and Jellybush.

Leptospermum thrive in a very wide variety of conditions, can be excellent in the teeth of a gale but also thriving in hot dry interior conditions.  They are an excellent cut flower, easy to grow and make good screen plantings.

It will grow in any soil as long as it is well-drained and they are widespread throughout Australia, but this species is somewhat more restricted in its diversity than others as it is slightly frost tender and plant in full sun.
