Kalmia latifolia - Mountain Laurel / Calico Bush - 30 seeds

This is an eastern North American native shrub or small tree growing 3 - 10m tall with glossy green, leathery foliage with really interesting flowers in late Spring.
Flowers are open faced, white to pink with dark pink or maroon markings and have outward spreading stamens that give the appearance of little umbrellas!
Best grown in dappled sunlight in hot climates but can be grown in full sun in cooler climates in moist, well drained, acidic soil with added mulch to help retain water as Kalmia has a shallow root system.
Use a fertiliser for acid loving plants mixed at 1/4 strength or blood and bone once yearly in Spring, be sure not to over fertilise as this will affect flowering.
Prune right after flowering being careful to not remove the new buds that start forming once flowers start to fade.
Note that this does not grow well in clay soils.
Seeds require a pre-treatment of cold stratification to break dormancy.
This is a really interesting plant with stunning and unusual flowers that makes a great feature in the garden.
30 premium quality seeds shipped on receipt of cleared funds.
