This Hibiscus is a small tree growing to approximately 6m in cultivation with a dense rounded crown and dark green round or heart shaped leaves to 7.5cm in diameter.  In the Spring it produces a profuse showing of yellow flowers to 10 - 15cm when fully open with deep red centres.
 
The yellow flowers usually only last a day and fade to a reddish brown as they age on the tree
Occurs naturally on beach forests, on beaches and on the banks of tidal streams, near watercourses, mangrove swamps and estuaries.
 
Makes a great shade tree or screen, it is also a food plant for the larval stages of the common Oakblue Butterfly.
 
It is tolerant of salt spray making it a natural choice for coastal planting and is a hardy plant in warm frost free areas, it is easily propagated from seed when soaked for 24 hours before sowing. 
Tolerates pruning so can be pruned to shape, it is capable of suckering so remove these so tree keeps a good shape.
