Eucalyptus torquata, also known as the Coolgardie or Coral Gum is one of the smaller of the Eucalypts growing from 4m to 10m tall and is a graceful tree with a well shaped, lightly crowned, is single stemmed and can make an outstanding ornamental.  The leaves, from 10 to 15cm long can vary considerably with new growth green turning blue green. 

The bark is dark, often described as cinnamon, rough and persistent. 

 

Lantern shaped buds precede the pink to red flowers which appear in pendulous clusters for long periods each year, sometimes flowering off and on all year. 

 

Coral Gum is an abundant nectar producer and is prized by apiarists.

 

This species can flower from two years of age and is sun or shade tolerant, drought resistant and but is somewhat frost sensitive while young but tolerance increases with age - a mature tree will take temperatures down to -7°C.  

 

It can take a wide variety of soils ranging from sandy, gravelly and heavy but not wet sites.
