This is an Australian native tree growing up to 20m tall. forming a lignotuber and grows naturally on exposed ridges, plateaus and slopes in subalpine woodland on the central and western Tablelands and endemic to the Highlands in central and western TAS.
 
The bark is smooth, pale grey or brown to yellow green with horizontal black scars often present, the juvenile leaves are orbicular to ovate becoming elliptical 3 - 8.5cm long x 3 - 5cm wide and glossy green on square stems, adult leaves are lanceolate to ovate 5.2 - 13.5cm long x 2 - 4.5cm wide and glossy green.
 
Flower buds occur in clusters of 3 per umbel, opening up to show white flowers throughout the year, mainly from Summer to Autumn.
