This Australian native grows up to 20m tall, forming a lignotuber, occurring naturally in coastal and adjacent wet forest hinterland of NSE and southern QLD from Sydney to Bundaberg on soils of moderate fertility.
 
This has Ironbark persisten to the smaller branches, grey or black, hard and deeply furrowed, juvenile foliage is ovate to lanceolate 5 - 12cm long x 1.5 - 4.8cm wide, dull to slightly glossy green, adult foliage is lanceolate to falcate 8.5 - 17.5cm long x 1.5 - 3cm wide and are dull to glossy green.
 
The diamond shaped flower buds occur in clusters of 7 per umbel, opening up to reveal white flowers throughout the year.
