This is a small tree, often Mallee like in habit to 7m tall, occasionally taller to 12m in height with a poor form often a straggly tree with a crooked trunk, forming a lignotuber, it has Ironbark to the smallest branches that is dark grey or black and deeply fissured.
 
The foliage opposite, sessile, orbicular to cordate 6 - 13cm long x 3 - 10cm wide, blue green in colour and glaucous, the flower buds occur in clusters of 7 buds per umbel, opening up to reveal creamy yellow flowers from Summer to Winter, the fruit that follows is cup shaped to barrel shaped, usually has 4 ribs or angles, are glaucous, 0.6 - 1cm long x 0.5 - 1cm wide.
 
This is endemic to north and central QLD and is usually found on higher elevation sites in very poor soil situations.
