Eucalyptus pauciflora ssp pauciflora, commonly known as the Tall Snow Gum, is an appealing tree with an irregular habit with smooth, peeling white to grey bark, often with 'scribbles', pendulous blue-grey to green foliage and by the thick rimmed fruits. Trunks may develop colourful red, orange and green patterning, especially in colder conditions and when it has been growing in snow.
The species has a wide natural distribution, from near coastal areas to 1500m in the Great Dividing Range, from the Queensland-New South Wales border to near Mt. Gambier in South Australia, and is one of the more cold tolerant of the Eucalypts.
The subspecies niphophila (listed by us as a separate item is a smaller, multi-trunked tree which is even more cold tolerant).Eucalyptus pauciflora ssp pauciflora is a small to medium tree which can reach 20m in height, but usually less in cultivation. It has been successfully used as a street tree in urban Melbourne roundabouts, and with careful placement makes a fine garden subject. Multi-trunked specimens are especially attractive, and may be produced by coppicing. The tree also works well planted in groups to emphasise the beauty of its smooth, peeling trunks.120 premium quality seeds shipped on receipt of cleared funds.
