The Omeo Gum, Eucalyptus neglecta, is a compact, bushy, densely-crowned small tree from approximately 5 to 8m in height and is often multi-stemmed it has smooth greenish bark with roundish dark glossy green foliage.

It usually occurs naturally as an understorey species at the sides of perennial streams in restricted areas of eastern Victoria.

Particularly suited to peaty or wet soils this species has earned the reputation in the United States as being one of the hardiest of all the Eucalyptus with their severe northern Winters often reducing it to ground level only for it to rejuvenate in the Spring.

It is wind tolerant and can take frost, light snow and sub-alpine conditions.

It retains its lower branches and is one of the best Eucalyptus for bushy low shelter.

Flowers are white but rather insignificant with form and foliage being the primary attraction.

It is under increasing pressure in its natural range around the high country of Omeo in eastern Victoria.
