Eucalyptus miniata, commonly known as the Darwin Woollybutt, is a small tree growing 15 - 25m tall with spectacular flowers, the Woollybutt is one of the most widespread tree species in northern tropical woodlands ranging from the Kimberley region east to Cape York Peninsula.
A medium tree growing to approximately 15 - 25m, it is a half-bark species that gets its common name from the spongy, fibrous bark that grows half-way up the trunk, above this, the bark is smooth and white.
Flowers are a very showy flame coloured reddish orange with bright yellow tipped stamens.
The distinctive large barrel shaped, ribbed gum nuts, grow to 6cm in length and almost as wide and are popular in flower arrangements.
This is an outstanding tree for warmer tropical areas and has flowered as far south as Brisbane, unfortunately it has not proven vigorous on its own roots outside its natural range.
