Eucalyptus microcarpa, known as the Inland Grey Box, is a tall tree that grows to 25m tall and is commonly found on the inland side of the Great Dividing Range from southern Queensland, through NSW and into Victoria.
It has a dark grey, finely fibrous bark on the trunk and larger branches, but smooth, light grey or cream bark on the branches. The crown is rather upright and the leaves vary from narrowly lanceolate to elliptical.
White flowers appear anywhere from late Summer to early Winter, are rich in nectar and pollen and a good source of honey.
Usually found on heavy soils in a warm to hot, rather dry climate and will tolerate heavy frosts.
Grey Box is highly regarded as a shade tree for stock and may be planted in windbreaks.
