Eucalyptus dalrympleana, commonly known as the White Mountain Gum or just Mountain Gum is a medium sized to large tree more normally to approximately 40m, but sometimes growing to 60m in height, this species is found naturally in the mountains high tablelands and plateaus of the Central Tablelands of New South Wales, north eastern Victoria and eastern Tasmania.
 
Its smooth bark, blotched white and grey to yellow-white, and sometimes pink, green to olive is a feature, it often has a ruff of excoriated bark on the first metre or so of the trunk. 

 

Juvenile leaves are orbicular to ovate, light green to subglaucous and adult leaves are dull grey-green, narrowly lanceolate to lanceolate, 15-27mm long with a clumping, weeping, willow-like tendency and often shining, new branchlets often have a reddish hue. 

 

Flowers are white or creamy white but rather insignificant. 
 
This is a fast growing frost tolerant species that can take temperatures down to about -12°C and can take a range of soils and is particularly useful in that it can take chalky or alkaline soils.
