Eucalyptus crucis ssp crucis, commonly known as the Southern Cross Silver Mallee is a lignotuberous, multi-trunked mallee to some 15m in height and has a limited distribution in the eastern part of the Western Australian wheat belt between Merredin, Southern Cross and Westonia. The botanical name crucis or cross is a locality reference to the town of Southern CrossThis species has Minnirichi bark - "Minnirichi" for Eucalypts is a bark type only found in Western Australia, where the outer layer of weathered bark splits longitudinally and curls outwards at the edges but remains attached to the stem at the middle, usually exposing shiny green to coppery unweathered bark.In this species bark is persistent to smaller branches, green-fawn over rich red-brown, juvenile leaves are glaucous, opposite, usually orbicular or wider than long, 1.7 to 5.5cm in length, 2.3 to 6.5cm wide. Intermediate leaves are broad lanceolate to ovate, straight, entire, dull grey green and adult leaves are opposite or disjunct, ovate or sub-orbiculate or orbiculate, dull, glaucous, thin, and consistent in colour.Cream or yellow flowers to 2.5cm are borne in profusion the late Spring and Summer.Eucalyptus crucis is frost tolerant and drought resistant and requires full sun in a well-drained soil.This is an attractive small tree that is suitable as a low wind-break or as an ornamental.Foliage is used in the floristry trade.This listing is for 50 premium quality seeds shipped on receipt of cleared funds.
