Eucalyptus camaldulensis, commonly known as the River Red Gum is a tree to 20m in height with a large spreading crown, a robust trunk and thick, curved and often crooked branches. The bark is smooth and dappled, off white red or grey in colour and occasionally a little rough bark can be found at the base, the leaves are narrow-lanceolate, to lanceolate and are from 7 to 30cm in length.Flowers are white and appear from Winter to Spring. This is by far the most widely distributed of all the Eucalypts and is found primarily on the major waterways, as can be expected with a species covering a huge geographical range it will tolerate a wide range of climatic conditions and soil types and is frost tolerant. It requires a good water supply and normally grows where there is good ground water close to the surface or where it receives a lot of run-off.
It is useful as a shade tree or ornamental for larger gardens, but is inclined to lose large branches, it is fast to establish, achieving a growth rate of 3m a year for the first five years.100 fresh and viable premium seeds shipped on receipt of cleared funds.
