Eucalyptus bridgesiana, commonly known as the Apple Box is a medium lignotuberous tree growing from 8 to 20m in height and is found naturally over a wide range extending from Gippsland in Victoria north to south east Queensland, predominantly following the Great Dividing Range. As is somewhat common for Eucalyptus with a widespread range, it is somewhat variable in its form.Bark rough over whole trunk and larger branches, fibrous, usually tessellated and mottled grey and white. Juvenile leaves heart-shaped and stalkless, glaucous, orbicular to ovate or cordate, 2.5 to 10cm long, 2 to 8cm wide, with crenulate margins and grey green in colour. Adult leaves are 12 to 24cm in length, tapering to a fine point, green on both sides, with the veins widely spaced. White flowers are normally seen in the Summer and Autumn.Juvenile foliage is used in the floristry trade.Apple Box will grow from temperate to highlands zones in most soils, it is at home in heavy clay soils and requires full sun.
