This is an Australian native tree to 15m tall, forming a lignotuber, occurring in the coastal strip north from Kew near Port Macquarie in northern NSW to the Tin Can Bay - Boonooroo area just SE of Maryborough in QLD in dry sclerophyll woodland on infertile sandy soils in low swampy sites.  
 
It has smooth and often granular white to grey to pink bark, shedding in large plates or flakes, glossy or dull green to blue green or grey green 10 - 26cm long x 2 - 5cm wide, broadly lanceolate to falcate leaves, mature flower buds that are narrowly ovoid to oblong, creamy green to red, smooth or faintly ridged and has 7 - 15 buds per cluster, opeing to reveal white flowers in Spring.
