Elaeocarpus reticulatus - Blueberry Ash / Fairy Petticoats - 20 seeds
This is a fast growing, small evergreen tree or large shrub, growing 3 - 15m tall x 3 - 5m wide with a dense crown and a conical form and is found naturally in a wide range of conditions from moist gullies, rocky ridge outcrops and sandy coastal scrubs in the warmer temperate regions along the east coast from Fraser Island, QLD to Flinders Island, TAS.
It has leathery, dark green leaves up to 12cm long that are lanceolate with serrated margins, some of the leaves are often covered with a white film, new growth is pinkish and as the leaves age they turn red and fall from the tree.
In Spring to Summer, 1cm white pendulous flowers with fringed edges (look similar to little skirts) are arranged in rows along the branchlets and have a liquorice aroma, these are then followed by round to oval shaped drupes that are bright blue and about 1cm long, birds love them!
Best in full sun to part shade in a wide range of conditions in moist well drained soil, this makes a great addition to a home garden as a feature, tall or short screen, as a hedge or a large potted specimen.
It responds well to pruning so can be kept to any height desired.
This listing is for 20 seeds shipped on receipt of cleared funds.
