This is a large West Australian native tree that grows up to 40m tall in a range of habitats with a rounded canopy forming a lignotuber, the bark is greyish brown and exudes a red coloured sap - Marri is a Nyoongar word for blood which relates to the red sap.  These trees can take on a Mallee form on poor sites reaching only approminately 5m tall.
Beautiful creamy white flowers put on a spectacular show at the end of Summer and the large urn shaped gum nuts - these are often referred to as honky nuts and these provide a food source to native birds, parrots and cockatoos.  There is a rarer common pink form that occurs naturally too but this species readily hybridises with Corymbia ficifolia which produces pinkish red flowers.

This is a great shade tree for large gardens, parks or paddocks and can survive in harsh dry climates.
