Chorizema cordatum - Heart Leaved Flame Pea - 20 Seeds

Chorizema or Flame peas are a genus of approximately 25 species endemic to Australia.  They are shrubs or twiners and have masses of spectacular orange and/or red (for the most part) pea flowers.

Chorizema cordatum, the Heart Leaved Flame Pea, is a spreading shrub to about 1m in height and the same in width with oblong to ovate toothed leaves to about 7.5cm.  In flower they present a riotous, gaudy display in blended orange and purplish-red, occasionally yellow, from Late Summer through to Winter, they are fast growing with slender graceful branches.  You can leave them to their own devices and they will make an attractive display spilling over a bank or on walls, in a container or in a hanging basket or you can prune them, pinch them back and cut them back after flowering to make 50cm ground cover, edging or a flower border.

These delightful plants are a source of late Winter colour and can even be brought inside for periods to give you that sense of Spring in the depths of Winter.  They are easy to grow from seed and requiring only simple stratification by way of pre-treatment.
