This is a fast growing evergreen tree growing to 15 - 20m tall in its native habitat in SE Asia - South India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar,Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia and parts of Indonesia but usually is shorter in cultivation with a low branching, high crown. It has yellowish green, pinnate leaflets that are elliptic in shape and gorgeous dense racemes of bright yellow flowers, that are 3.5cm across, occurring at the ends of branches in Spring to Summer. They are erect and nodding and very showy!
 
It is tolerant of a wide range of soils and conditions but does not tolerate frost or temperatures less than 10°C.
Prefers well drained moist soil with an acidic - neutral pH and grows best in full sun.
Best pruned to maintain bushiness and vigour and also can be cut to desired height, note that this has a spreading root system so care needs to be taken when choosing its final position in the garden.
 
This is a popular forestry species with beautiful timber as well as a garden ornamental, a privacy screen and can also be trained as a Bonsai!
