Cassia fistula - Golden Shower Tree - 25 seeds

Cassia fistula, commonly known as the Golden Shower Tree (a distinctly different species to the Golden Rain Tree (Koelreutaria panniculata), is a medium sized, deciduous tree of about 10m tall. 
 
The foliage is medium green and compound providing a nice open, lacy look, flowers are golden yellow and appear in hanging bunches up to 40cm long and arrive when the branches are bare, just before the new leaves emerge. 
 
Fruits are woody, cylindrical pods, up to 50cm long, becoming blackish with maturity.

Native to India, the Amazon and Sri Lanka, now popularly planted as an ornamental tree across the world.

Cassia fistula is tolerant of many soils and light salt drift, once established, it is a carefree tree with few requirements except a bit of fertiliser.  It prefers full sun to dappled shade which allows low plants below to thrive in all seasons and soil should be dry, this species is not frost tolerant.
