Cassia brewsteri, commonly known as the Leichhardt Bean, Brewster's Cassia is a variable tree known for its spectacular flowering occurring naturally in eastern Queensland.
It is a fast growing plant that flowers at a young age and grows naturally as a shrub from 2 to 4m on dry, degraded adverse sites and as a tree of up to 30m and a diameter of 1m in lowland closed forest situations.
It produces masses of long flower sprays in the Summer to Autumn, this is the only native Australian Cassia to produce red flowers!
The petals are in a combination of red or orange touched with yellow and make a delightful showing and vary in colour from orange, red and yellow and are produced in long beautiful sprays.
It is adaptable to well drained soils, and tolerates dry conditions but prefers hot, frost free areas.
