Buddleja davidii - Summer Lilac / Butterfly Bush / Orange Eye - 30 seeds

This is a fast growing gorgeous ornamental plant that grows 1 - 5m tall and originated in central China with a semi evergreen habit.
It has wide spreading branches with cane like stems and bright grey green leaves with serrated margins.
 
Small fragrant individual hermaphrodite flowers 1cm x 0.5cm are tubular in shape, purple with an orange stain in the centre occur on dense pointed inflorescenses to 35cm long in Summer and puts on a spectacular show.  These attract and are pollinated by insects, in particular butterflies, hence the common name Butterfly Bush, followed by fruit and seeds in Autumn.
 
Best grown in full sun in moist, well drained soil and is slightly salt tolerant, frost, drought, wind and urban pollution tolerant.  Prune back in Winter (by at least half) to promote a bushy habit and a better show of flowers in the Summer.
 
This makes a great addition to the home garden as a feature, screen or shrub, adding colour as well as attracting insects.
 
Seeds benefit from a cold stratification treatment for 4 weeks prior to sowing.
