Banksia oreophila - Mountain Banksia - 5 seeds
This is a many branched West Australian native shrub that grows from 1 to 2.5m tall, is non-lignotuberous and is adaptable in cultivation. Banksia oreophila has cylindrical spikes of beautiful blue - purple to red - brown or mauve - grey flowers in the Autumn - Spring, the bark is smooth grey or brown and the leaves are pale green leaves that are narrow and wedge shaped.
It is best to prune when young to encourage a bushy habit otherwise it can become straggly with age.
Grows best in well drained, light to medium soils in cool temperate and Mediterranean climates. It is found naturally growing on rocky or shale soils, usually quarztite, sandstone or granite on upper slopes and summits of low mountains.
