Banksia blechnifolia is an attractive fast growing prostrate shrub Banksia  that has its branches growing prostrate (along the ground) and the leaves are bluish green to dark green, woolly and about 30cm x by 7.5 to 10cm long.

The flowers are acorn shaped, cylindrical and 5cm to 10cm long, in a reddish pink becoming cream towards the base and appearing from Spring to Summer in Australia.

The natural habitat of this Banksia is the south west of Western Australia where it inhabits white sand heath with a rainfall of about 400mm a year.

Propagation is from seed which should be sown into a standard seed raising mix and watered as required, plant young seedlings as soon as practical to avoid too much root disturbance.  Plant into well drained soil with an acidic pH of around 6.0 to 6.5.

Phosphorus fertilisers are toxic to the plant so a specialised native plant fertiliser should be used.  This species is not lignotuberous and should only be pruned lightly above the green foliage, preferably at a branch fork.

This species is drought resistant when established.
