This is a long lived Australian native tree growing to 15m tall in cultivation but can be taller in its native habitat on deep alluvial sandy soils in eastern NSW, also occurring in SE QLD and VIC.
It grows as a short trunked tree, forming a lignotuber with low branches when grown in the open, the bark is rough and fibrous, often spongy in texture and is grey to brown in colour, the trunk can take on a gnarled appearance with age.
It has broad lanceolate green leaves to 12cm long x 2 - 3cm wide and in Summer white flowers appear in terminal clusters followed by thin walled, ribbed and cup shaped fruits and are the smallest of all Angophora species.
Angophora floribunda attracts nectar feeding birds, flying foxes, attracts bees, insects and also seed and insect eating birds, also may develop hollow logs with age that a range of Australian fauna can use for nesting.
Best grown in full sun in well drained soils and makes a great addition for parks and gardens, also makes a lovely avenue planting or as a feature.
