Acacia victoriae, variously known as Elegant Wattle, Bramble Wattle or Gundabluey is a brambly shrub or small tree that can be found growing naturally in all the mainland states of Australia.  It often forms thickets and usually located near watercourses on sands, cracking clays and heavier soils in arid and semi-arid regions.

This is a relatively short lived - up to 10 years - moderately fast growing species that grows to about 6m with a similar spread, normally with a multi-stemmed habit although this can be avoided with pruning.

It is a thorny semi-evergreen with blue-green phyllodes (leaves), producing fragrant pale yellow globular shaped blooms in the Spring to early Summer and flowers are followed by papery seed capsules maturing in the Summer months.

It is useful in ornamental terms in that it is frost tolerant and can be pruned to form a screen, but its main claim to fame is as a bush tucker species with the seed regarded as a standard or staple.

It has the advantage of producing one of the largest seeds of the wattles giving a good yield of flour.  The ground and roasted seeds are tasty and are used for flavouring sauces and ice cream, in breads, pasta and biscuits.

There are also recent reports that Acacia victoriae can produce triterpenoid saponins that inhibit tumour growth.

It is a nitrogen fixing legume and a palatable stock forage species and is tolerant of heavy frost, moderate drought, soil lime and moderate soil salinity and prefers a position in full sun.

Propagation is straight forward with scarified seed.
