Quercus robur - English Oak - 5 seeds


Quercus robur is a handsome deciduous and long lived variety of Oak growing 12 to 18m tall with a short trunk, low branching canopy, broad spreading crown and the rigid bark is a greyish black that develops deep fissures with age and adds interest. 


The beautiful blue green oval foliage is deeply lobed, turning red to yellow before falling from the tree in the Autumn.


The oval Acorns are another interest factor but take up to 20 years to set seed for the first time, when they finally do, these are a valuable food source for small mammals and birds.


This is a gorgeous feature tree, and widely used as a fabulous Bonsai specimen!


It is best grown in full sun and prefers a moist well drained soil.  It is drought tolerant and frost hardy, it is adaptable to a wide range of soil conditions.


Best sown in Autumn and Winter from fresh seed.
