This Australian native Eucalypt has a restricted distribution in coastal hills from Beaufort Inlet west to Cape Riche on sandy to stony soil.
It grows as a multi trunked, well shaped Mallee 5 - 7m tall with smooth bark that is light pink to grey and the bark sheds in strips, it has rounded and spreading habit and dense foliage that has a strong menthol smell when crushed and distinguished from Eucalyptus lehmanii by the shorter, generally broader crown leaves, often elliptical in shape and with a rounded apex.
In late Summer flower buds are fused together in a tight ball or star shape, the bud caps are long, pointed with a reddish tinge and open up to show the green flowers, these attract birds, bees and other insects.
This is a lovely ornamental deserving of a place in any home garden, best in full sun and a great choice for drier climates.
