Myrtaceae - no shipment to Western Australia or Tasmania
Eucalyptus forrestiana, or the Fuchsia Gum as it is commonly known, is a fast-growing ornamental gum growing to between 4.5 - 6m tall and it is a shapely bushy tree with fairly dense branches and attractive deep red to scarlet pendulous, four sided bell like buds and fruit that are showy and colourful long before the appearance of the bright yellow flowers.
The fruits and buds make an attractive long-lasting floral display with the whole tree a mass of colour from the prolific buds and are a sought after item in the floral trade.
It is another gum from Western Australia differing from many in that it will grow equally well on light dry sandy soils or in heavy soils. It likes full sun, rainfall in its native territory is around 400mm per year and performs better in the less humid areas where it is often seen as a street tree. It is slightly frost tender when young but once established is moderately frost and drought resistant.
