Acacia decora, commonly known as the Showy Wattle, but also as Western Silver Wattle or Western Golden Wattle is found naturally in eastern Australia from Wangaratta, Victoria in the south to the Palmer Rive area in north Queensland - a huge range of over 2000km and covers a variety of primarily dry, low humidity inland climatic zones (temperate to fully tropical) and micro-climates.

It is a shrub ranging in height from 1 to 3m with a compact attractive form and attractive with narrow grey-blue spearhead shaped foliage.  It flowers in late Winter and produces profuse racemes of golden ball-like blooms from 3 to 6cm long and carried prominently in the upper axils.

It occurs naturally on rocky ridges or outcrops with degraded soils but adapts happily in cultivation to a range of lighter, drier, well-drained soils, prefers a sunny, open position and is both drought hardy and frost tolerant.

It is an excellent low level cover for windbreaks, useful for recharge control plantings, improves soil fertility by fixing nitrogen and regenerates readily from seed, particularly after fire.

Provides a valuable habitat and offers pollen and seeds to many native birds and insects.
